The Wisconsin Spatial Data Repository Project will provide a facility for the aggregation, integration, and distribution of common statewide geospatial data layers, improve the quality of this data, and reduce redundant costs related to their use. Vector and raster data will be available through a variety of services to accommodate the diversity of GIS practitice throughout the state today. On a case by case basis, special accommodations may be made for state and local government agencies.
This effort is a partnership between the State of Wisconsin Geographic Information Office and other GIS-related institutions including the Wisconsin Geographic Information Coordination Council (WIGICC), the State Agency Geographic Information Coordination Council (WIGICC), the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the State Cartographer's Office (SCO), the Wisconsin Land Information Association, WisconsinView, the Wisconsin Department of Administration, US Geological Survey, and National States Geographic Information Council. Collaboration topics include the development of statewide GIS interoperability guidelines, the definition of layer-specific data custodian policies and procedures, and the specification of geospatial data models and services that will be used for collection and distribution.
