The Wisconsin Spatial Data Repository Project
Minimize

The Wisconsin Spatial Data Repository Project will provide a facility for the aggregation, integration, and distribution of common statewide geospatial data layers, improve the quality of this data, and reduce redundant costs related to their use.  Vector and raster data will be available through a variety of services to accommodate the diversity of GIS practitice throughout the state today. On a case by case basis, special accommodations may be made for state and local government agencies.

This effort is a partnership between the State of Wisconsin Geographic Information Office and other GIS-related institutions including the Wisconsin Geographic Information Coordination Council (WIGICC), the State Agency Geographic Information Coordination Council (WIGICC), the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the State Cartographer's Office (SCO), the Wisconsin Land Information Association, WisconsinView, the Wisconsin Department of Administration, US Geological Survey, and National States Geographic Information Council. Collaboration topics include the development of statewide GIS interoperability guidelines, the definition of layer-specific data custodian policies and procedures, and the specification of geospatial data models and services that will be used for collection and distribution.

We welcome your involvement! If you have questions about, or would like to participate in this effort, please contact us through the 'Feedback' link at the top of the page.

Thank you!

Current Status
Minimize

Project scope for the remainder of fiscal year 2009 has been defined and will include work on the following data layers:

  • Parcel boundaries
  • Voting districts
  • School districts
  • State facilities
  • Minor Civil Divisions (MCD's)
  • LandNet
  • 24k Hydrography
  • Roads
  • 2008 NAIP image services

The project is now in its first implementation cycle. Early objectives will establish the hosting infrastructure, collect best available data sets for these layers, define inital data models for distribution, and implement commonly used service formats for distributing this data. Subsequent work during fiscal year 2010 will focus on defining and improving custodial processes and distribution policies, adding additional data layers, expanding services, and improving production performance and support.
